Here we have a pretty postcard from Sajou (a French company selling fabulous vintage style needlework accessories and haberdashery); a pair of  polka dot scissors for thread cutting and a Victorian style pewter seam ripper. (Of course a quilter never needs to use a seam ripper - but you can keep it for decoration!!!) ...

Singer Featherweight 221

Je vous présente le nouveau membre de la famille ...

Let me introduce the new member of the family...

Elle est ma machine à coudre Singer, Poids Plume 221. Je l'ai achetée en Grande-Bretagne au mois de février. Je pense qu'elle est belle! 

Meet my Singer Featherweight 221 sewing machine. I bought her in the UK in February. I think she is lovely!

Ma Janome Horizon 7700 est une machine à coudre très lourde et pas très portatif. Bien pour coudre dans mon atelier, mais difficile d'emporter avec moi. La machine à coudre Featherweight ne pèse que 5 kg et cette publicité ancienne montre une femme tenant sa machine sur une seule main! Je voudrais avoir peur de le laisser tomber!

My Janome Horizon 7700 is a very heavy machine and not very portable. Fine for sewing at home but difficult to take anywhere with me! The Featherweight weighs only 11lb and this old advert shows a woman holding the machine on one hand. I'd be afraid that I'd drop it!

Ma machine a été fabriqué à Kilbowie en Ecosse. L'usine était la plus grande du monde et avait sa propre ligne de chemin de fer et une gare. A son apogée, 16.000 personnes y travaillaient.

My machine was made at Kilbowie, Scotland in the largest sewing machine factory in the world. It had its own railway line and station and at its peak 16,000 people worked there.
